My favourite (ex) non-monarch

Simeon Sax-Coburg, heir to the Bulgarian throne, stood for office, got himself elected Prime Minister of Bulgaria and now - it seems - has been thrown out in a peaceful election. This is the kind of monarch one can live with.

Bulgaria as case for marginal hope. It sure ain't Belarus. European dream not dead.
